Portage County
Nestled in the heart of Northeast Ohio, Portage County boasts a diverse array of communities – from the vibrant Kent (“The Tree City”), home to Kent State University and 40,500 residents, to the historic county seat of Ravenna with a population of 27,100. Individuals and families who reside in Portage County are surrounded by many charming cities and communities, including several townships and villages like Ravenna Township, Rootstown, Shalersville, Brimfield, Atwater, and others. Portage County blends a rich historical heritage with modern living, offering a mix of small-town charm and access to cultural and recreational amenities that make it a special place to live and visit. Additionally, its convenient proximity to Summit County, Cleveland, as well as other metropolitan areas in Northeast Ohio provides residents with easy access to many opportunities and amenities.

Kent, Ohio – As the largest city in Portage County, Kent is a dynamic community with a significant need for low-income housing. In collaboration with community partners, PMHA develops, manages and supports housing programs like Section 8 housing to ensure residents of Kent, Ohio have access to safe and affordable housing.
Ravenna, Ohio – In Ravenna and Ravenna Township, PMHA connects residents with affordable housing options tailored to the needs of the community. These properties are designed to accommodate low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities with safe, decent, and affordable places to call home.
Other Cities, Townships and Villages – Each of these communities has its unique character and housing needs. PMHA ensures residents have access to affordable housing options, ranging from apartments to single-family homes, in the following areas:

Low-income housing programs in our service area, along with initiatives like Moving To Work, PMHA’s Homeownership Program, and resources provided by our community partners, work together to help Portage County families and individuals achieve self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life.
Neighborhoods and Available Properties in the Area
PMHA administers approximately 300 public housing units, providing a range of low-income housing options for families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities across Portage County. These properties include apartments, duplexes, and single-family homes designed for comfortable living in well-maintained, safe neighborhoods. PMHA supports access to Section 8 housing with approximately 1,950 Housing Choice Voucher units. This program assists eligible families and individuals in finding affordable rental throughout Portage County, including Ravenna, Kent, Garrettsville, Mantua, and Windham. Portage Landings apartment buildings in Kent, Ohio are not subsidized and available to any person or family seeking to rent affordable housing units. Privately-owned subsidized housing units for families, older adults, and disabled individuals are located in Streetsboro, Kent, and Ravenna in Portage County, as well as Stow in Summit County.
